Vintage Wade and Butcher Improved Tang, Extra Hollow Ground, Straight Razor. Made in Sheffield, England.
"Extra Hollow Ground" is marked on one side of the blade. "Wade and Butcher Sheffield, England" along with the Wade & Butcher B in a Circle, Arrow and Iron Cross trademark. All the writing is easily visible, but could be cleaned up a bit.
Also marked "Improved Tang". This Razor has an Extra Long Monkey Tail!
The blade is about 5/8" wide x about 3" long. There are no nicks in the blade's cutting edge, and it's free of any cracks. Appears to be the original full length. It's spotted with surface rust and pitting.
The scales have no cracks and I don't see any warps. The blade fits snugly between the scales and moves freely.
Estate find. I didn't attempt to clean it other than a quick wipe off. Final cleaning left to the buyers preference. Will clean up like new. Check my photos. Very nice.
WADE BUTCHER is one of SHEFFIELD?S finest and oldest manufactures of straight razors, and are highly sought after.
Box is not the original. It's marked "Wester Bros New York Manganese steel". The razor is slightly longer than the box. There is 1/8" gap that on the box slide.
