Oregon's courts are in the process of changing their computer system to make most court records of criminal cases - whether you were found not guilty, had your case dismissed, or were convicted of a crime - available for free on the Internet.
This is a huge change, and the personal concequences to anyone with a criminal record are very real. For some people, the best case scenario may be public embarrassment, while the worst case for others may be the loss of relationships, marriages, or careers when this information is released.
Now the good news: Some people are eligible to expunge (legally seal) thier record, right now, and if they complete that legal process before the Court's computer switch, nothing will exist to be made public.
